Let
Us introduce ourselves. We are Karen and Roger Dunn of Angel
Fleece Alpaca Farm, and our farm coordinator Rommie Smith.
We want to thank you for continuing to check us out, and for
visiting another page of our website.
After raising cattle and horses for about 12 years, we decided
to take our farm in a different direction. We knew we still
wanted to raise some type of livestock, one that would be
easy to manage, and gentler users of the land than previously,
and so began our search.
It took us about 1½ years of research during which
time we heard about alpacas, and after reading, farm visits,
and attending the NAILE show, we learned alpacas were right
for us, fit our farm needs, and also offered a great tax advantage.
We then bought our first two alpacas (bred females), and that
began our herd in 2001, which today is now approaching 40
alpacas.
Roger,
Rommie, and myself are all animal lovers and find the alpaca
lifestyle to be very rewarding. Every alpaca on the farm has
its own individual personality and uniqueness, which can be
very entertaining, and brings a little smile to your face
as you interact with them each day. When you have crias being
born on your farm the anticipation is answered with this new
little boy or girl, and you get so excited, with such a feeling
of happiness, you know how lucky you are to be a part of this
industry. To let you know a little more about us please read
on:
Roger and I, and Rommie all have business degrees from the
University of Kentucky, and have that knowledge to share with
you, as well as our practical experience.
Owner
of a successful food service sales agency for the past 30
years, Roger has sound business experience that he can share
with future breeders, as it pertains to the alpaca industry.
Roger has attended several AOBA conferences and seminars.
He has attended herd health and management seminars given
by Dr. Norm Evans. He has attended seminars on marketing and
nutrition, and alpaca fiber technology by Ruth Elvestad and
continues to learn more about alpacas through publications
and seminars that are offered.
My
work outside the alpaca industry has been with Roger in the
food service sales agency, managing the inside daily responsibilities
for the past 26 years. I work very hands on with our alpacas
with shots, vaccinations, toenails, birthing, and breeding.
I have attended Marty McGee workshops, Dr. Norm Evans herd
health, nutrition and herd management seminars, and neonatal
clinics by Dr. Toni Cotton, and Dr. Long, and other educational
seminars, including Alpaca Fiber Technology by Ruth Elvestad.
I also have attended several AOBA Conferences, and seminars.

Having worked with a national farm equipment manufacturer
as Regional Sales Manager and having grown up on a farm, brings
many years of experience and managing skills to our farm.
He is very hands-on, through shots, worming, toenail trimming,
training and daily responsibilities. Rommie, has attended
several seminars, including Marty McGee, cria care/weaning,
herd management and nutrition, and neonatal clinic taught
by Dr. Long.
We are members of AOBA, ARI, I love Alpacas Coop, and our
local AOBA affiliate. We attend shows and have placed, with
1st, 2nd 3rd, etc. and also have won Color Champions and Reserve
Champions. We hope that you will complete our contact page
so that we may send you more information, or set up a farm
visit, so we can show you our alpacas and help you get started
in this great industry. We hope to earn your business through
solid quality alpacas, excellent customer service, education,
dedication, and after sales support. Thank you for your time.
